My name is Rachel. I am a wife, mother of 3, student, and avid reader. When I was a kid I read all the time. My elementary school always ran one of those contests to see who logged the most hours reading, or read the most books. I dominated that contest every year! I think my mom still has my trophies. Yes, trophies for reading! How cool is that?
Once I got a job, got married and had a bunch of kids, my reading time slowly diminished until it was non existent. I went from reading 2 books a week to maybe 2 a year. As the economy tanked I suddenly found myself laid off from my job. Now that I have more free time I decided to quit watching so much TV and get back to my first love, books.
I am the time of person who needs a pretty concrete goal to stick to and I also wanted to get around to reading all the books I always wanted to but never did, and to find some new books as well. So, I decided to really challenge myself and tackle Peter Boxall's 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. I noticed the book while picking up a book for school and thought it would be a good way to get me to pick up a book I may have never found on my own.
Now that I've started the goal, I need to be held accountable to it. That's where the idea of the blog came in. It gives me something to check in with and update my progress. Though now I'm having so much fun blogging that I have to fore myself to stop and read so I have something to blog about.
Off to read now!
